How do I apply for Taipei Free services?

When using our service for the first time, for information security reasons, an account must be registered. An account can be registered online on the Taipei Free website (https://wifi.taipei). After providing a cellphone number, the system will send an authentication code via SMS (All system SMS from Taipei Free are free, and do not charge). Upon entering the authentication code into the space provided on the website and completing the registration procedure, search for our SSID "TPE-Free" in applicable service areas, and then connect to the service to enjoy free internet service.

How do use Taipei Free services after an account is registered?

Please enable the Wi-Fi function on your phone or notebook, search for the SSID "TPE-Free" and confirm to connect to TPE-Free. When opening the browser, it will automatically go to a login page. Please enter your cell number and password, and then click "Login" to enjoy the free internet service.

What if the authentication code or SMS is not received?

It is recommended to contact the customer service of your mobile carrier, and check if the SMS has ad-blocking functions. Please disable such functions to ensure our SMS is properly delivered.

What if I forgot my password?

Please visit the Taipei Free website, go to "Account Management" > click "Forgot Password" > enter your account name (cellphone number). The password will be sent to your cellphone via SMS.

Why can’t I access the net after being connected to TPE-Free?

Please note: You must login to connect to the internet with http page. If the initial page you load is an https page with encrypted protocols, such as https://www.google.com.tw, our system will not be able to direct your browser to the login authentication page.

Can I use Taipei Free services both on my phone and notebook?

For overall network system and improving bandwidth resource distribution, Taipei Free services conforms to wireless network system regulations adopted by current government agencies and private businesses. If there is no network activity from the device for 15 minutes, the system will automatically let the user out to avoid occupying public bandwidth for a prolonged duration of time, in respect for the rights of other users. If you require internet services after being logged out, you can reconnect to the hotspot and login again.

I have applied for mobile internet plans on my smartphone; what should I pay attention to when using Taipei Free services?

Taipei Free services are free of charge. If you have automatic connect functions enabled on your phone, using Taipei Free services on your smartphone in public areas may cause your phone to automatically switch to 4G or other charged commercial wireless bandwidth services. We recommend to switch off 4G network functions before using Taipei Free services. After using Taipei Free services, manually close your internet browser and Wi-Fi functions to avoid additional charges.

Taipei Free is a free public Wi-Fi internet service provided by the Taipei City Government in public area. It complies with the safety and security mechanism of the public network of the existing government agencies.
